Animoto and Technology in the Classroom

Check out this rough 30 second video I made on Animoto about technology in the classroom.
Here is an updated version of the video without the voice over.

Math made easy!

Are you afraid to teach Math in your classroom? Math Playground is a great site that breaks down math skills and provides a video to explain the process of how to learn a given skill. This site addresses topics like Geometry, and Fractions while also having videos on Algebra. It is a great resource for teachers (and students) to use to become more prepared in mathematics.

This resource addresses several strands in the Math Curriculum but here are a few of them:

1. By the end of Grade 2, students will: identify, describe, extend, and create repeating patterns, growing patterns, and shrinking patterns; (Grade 2)

2. By the end of grade 8, students will: create a variety of representations of mathematical ideas (e.g., numeric, geometric, algebraic, graphical, pictorial; onscreen dynamic representations), connect and compare them, and select and apply the appropriate representations to solve problems (Grade 8)

3. By the end of grade 8, students will: demonstrate an understanding of the geometric properties of quadrilaterals and circles and the applications of geometric properties in the real world; (Grade 8)

Game on Flight

3... 2... 1... Take off! Check out this addicting and exciting game that addresses the issue of flight. It is a great way to engage students and have them learn about flight without even knowing it.

In the Matter and Materials: Properties of Air and Characteristics of Flight portion of the Grade 6 Curriculum, this game addresses these three Overall Expections:

1. Students will: demonstrate an understanding of the properties of air (e.g., air and other gases have mass) and explain how these can be applied to the principles of flight;

2. Students will: investigate the principles of flight and determine the effect of the properties of air on materials when designing and constructing flying devices;

3. Students will: identify design features (of products or structures) that make use of the properties of air, and give examples of technological innovations that have helped inventors to create or improve flying devices.
Hey Class,

To get to know me, here are a few websites that I frequently check out:

NFL - Great way to keep updated on the Atlanta Falcons which are my favourite football team

Pinterest - Yes, I have Pinterest and I think it is quite a useful tool because it contains multiple links and resources. I use this as a site to gain ideas that I would use in the classroom and at home. Check it out!

Twitter - I know the majority of you have Twitter and you can follow me @MrAJeffrey

Resource Post

Hey class,

Try using the online Dictionary which is a handy resource you can use to look up words when you don't know what they mean or how to spell them. It is a great tool to use in any classroom to help students to learn to use other sources to gain knowledge.

Mr. Jeffrey
